The concept behind the Dark Mermaid shoot stemmed from an idea about what would happen years after the Mermaid married the Man in The Little Mermaid. The marriage, now dull and gray, and what once intrigued the Man, is mundane. The Mermaid, now accustomed to life on land, is overwhelmed with loneliness and longs for the sea.
